In order to prepare this book, 2,000 people from all professions and from all over Germany were consulted. They were asked which was their favorite color, which was their least favorite, what impressions each color could give them, and which colors they normally associate with different feelings. Associations were made in 160 different feelings and impressions – from love to hate, from optimism to sadness, from elegance to ugliness, from modern to old-fashioned – with certain colors. In the first group of illustrations, which comes after page 48, you can see the relationship between concepts and colors, and in the text the percentage data.
The results of the study show that colors and feelings are not accidentally combined, that their associations are not a matter of taste, but universal experiences deeply rooted since childhood in our language and our thinking. Psychological symbolism and historical tradition help to explain why this is so.

Color psychology – eva heller
Color psychology is a field of study that is aimed at analyzing the effect of color on human perception and behavior. From a strictly medical point of view, it is still an “immature” science in the mainstream of contemporary psychology, considering that many techniques attached to this field can be categorized within the realm of alternative medicine.
Color psychology has had an impact on human psychology since ancient times, a circumstance that was expressed and synthesized symbolically. Among many examples, in ancient China the cardinal points were represented by the colors blue, red, white and black, reserving yellow for the center (therefore, yellow was traditionally the color of the Chinese empire).
Similarly, the Mayas of Central America related East, South, West and North to the colors red, yellow, black and white respectively. In Europe, alchemists related colors to characteristics of the materials they used, for example, red for sulfur, white for mercury and green for acids or solvents.

After reviewing the book, it is not exactly what I expected, I was looking for something more scientific about the mechanisms of perception and the psychophysics of color. In general it is a book that deals more with the cultural use of color throughout history, aspects that are often the result of tradition, cultural heritage or mere conventions, without being overly justified by the mechanisms of human perception.
